I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the readings for this week. The aspect that hit home the most for me was using digital storytelling to foster human bonding and relationships among students or even students and teachers. I feel strongly that building capacity and strengthening relationships with students plays a crucial role in developing how people think about and interact with information just as Steven Johnson believed was true for gaming. It is clear that interactivity is a vital component in digital storytelling and going further the same interactivity will make transliteracy the norm in a school setting.
I also liked Joe Lambert’s idea of bringing students “back to words.” As a teacher, I recognize that encouraging students to feel comfortable writing is an on-going struggle, but I agree that digital story telling is and will be a major part of the modern teaching and learning landscape.
